Basketball Reggie

I'm growing an onion. It wasn't intentional, but it started sprouting- even shut up in a dark, cool cupboard. I admire that kind of determination in a vegetable. It was just the size to fit into the mouth of a Pringles can without falling down the tube, and I set it on the window sill. Eventually, the bulb decreased in size as the leaves consumed part of the stored energy. So I cut two cotton buds in half and stuck them in to the bulb, at right angles, so it would still fit in the tube. Now it looks rather like an onion-shaped weather cock. I've named him Reggie- after Audrey Hepburn's character in Charade. Which is in the public domain, amazingly. Which is why I watched a rubbish copy of it on my computer this morning! I'm going to plant him under my window, by the hydrangeas, soon. Just as soon as I'm convinced he can handle it- he may be precocious, but it's a very difficult world out there, even for vegetables. Also, I've gotten attached to him... And I've renamed him Basketball Jones, just now. Clearly I have more emotion tied up in this then I'd realised.

I finally made it to Warehouse on Thurs., the last of the night clubs in town I hadn't visited. It seemed nice enough, but the place was DEAD. So we went to Arena instead, which is rubbish, but at least there are people there! It's a rather subdued environment around here yet, since a majority of people still have exams or essays coming due in the next few days and weeks. It's hard for everyone to focus, what with the weather being gorgeous, so I count myself lucky that I'm finished and can enjoy it with absolute abandon. On the negative however... Everyone is still revising and taking exams so there's nobody to play with!

A bit buggy here, as well. Living in Montana, you frequently forget the affect of moisture on insect life- it's so rarely an issue. Still, you take the good... You take the bad... You try desperately to get the Facts of Life theme song out of your head. But I think I'll end this post here, since nightclub stories are only interesting to people in them- and usually not even to them. A night out is only interesting while it's happening- and I don't want to hang around the kind of people who find Diff'rent Strokes spin-offs interesting. Ta for now!

Important Postscript: Thanks to Bumma and Bumpa for their generous donation of traveling funds- you guys rock! I have an awesome family which is wonderfully indulgent of my wanderlust. Danke Schoen!
