Their 'eavenly...

I'm talking about Devon Cream Teas of course... Attended a free one given by the Catholic Chapliancy and it was delicious! Clotted cream is very good- somewhere in consistency between whipped cream and sweet butter- and terrible for you, which I justify by the long hike to and from Boniface House up and down some wicked hills, and past a lovely traditional garden I hadn't seen. Attended a folk dance last night, briefly, before heading over to the Ram (one of several on-campus pubs that looks half-timbered and authentic in a way that screams reproduction) for a Cider Black, that is, hard cider and blackcurrant. Blackcurrant is everywhere here- analagous to the creeping cran of American juices.

Attended the international student reception for free drinks and more English Folk Dancing tonight , but this time it was more exciting and more hazardous since there were significantly more people galloping across the floor and pinioning each other with vicious tango holds. Tomorrow is slow- just a couple of seminars on how to avoid ending up broke and suicidal in the UK- but on Friday I'm hoping to head out to Exemouth with the Windsurfing Society and to Dartmoor on Saturday with OODS (Out Of Doors Society). I'll take pictures of all and sundry and post them just as soon as I get my camera cable. TTFN

Don't expect this to continue, but...

I'll post again today. It's unlikely to happen once the school year starts officially so don't get to used to it. Closed out a pub last night with a group of fellow expats- American and otherwise. Don't be too impressed though, pubs close at the incredibly early hour of 11 PM. What a switch! At 11, we hadn't even left Red's yet! Cultural differences, I suppose. While I'm on the subject, big shout out to the folks at Writing Group. Why you gotta play Amanda that way?!?! Also, someone needs to pass this blog address onto John and Karen since their email addresses have been REPEATEDLY rejected by the folks at both the MSU email service and Yahoo. So, in summation, having a great time, missing you desperately, and rapidly descending into the British sport that is Pub Crawling. As always, regards,

Allison

'Ello from Exeter

Pardon the bad pun about cockney accents, I couldn't help myself. But all the same, I have made it! And it only took 24 hours with assorted planes, trains, and automobiles- a marked improvement from the difficulty of this journey a century ago, right? Would not have minded missing the 3 hours on the tarmac because of mysterious parts failure at Chicago O'Hare, but so it goes. Exeter is beautiful and the countryside passed through to get here is suitably pastoral. Here's the bad news... I packed the wrong cable and therefore can not link my computer and camera and thus share my pictures... YET. This problem will be worked out as soon as I can manage it. So in the mean time, try to calm yourselves and feel free to email me at abailey@montana.edu or knock me up if you're in Devon!
