Musings on Spin's "Year In Review"

I was reading Spin (the most hardcore of rock mags, I know; leave me alone.) today and a group of guest panelists was rating the top songs of 2004. The kept casting aspersions upon up-and-coming-but-still-very-mainstream pop-punk acts. I don't have a problem with groups like Good Charlotte, A Simple Plan, or Blink-182 although their music doesn't really appeal to me personally. I like to think of them as gateway drugs; pop-punk newbieswill perhaps carry their enthusiasm for these bands into a perusal of the classics. This should no way suggest I support the use of drugs. Unless of course that drug is music, in which case you should be freebasing that shit.
